Let's talk about Skincare

I have struggled with my skin for years, like since the beginning of high school. It is something I have always had problems with and constantly went to dermatologist appointments. In fact I switched dermo's probably 3 times in order to find one that actually listened to me. The root cause has yet to be fully determined but after years of searching, my skin has finally made some progress. Slowly.
That's the thing about skin, it's a slow battle that takes a while to get to the end results. And for many, the end results may never actually come. With modern day research, technology and services, we are able to get our skin as close to perfect if you want to. Everything from between, facials, micro-needling, light treatments, oral medications and topicals are all tools that many use to get to where they want to be. As someone who has struggled for years, there are moments where it never seems like it's going away but my skin has also taught me the importance of patience. Time really is everything, especially with skincare.
Why these products?
I am by no means a dermatologist and I am a strong believer that you need to get what works for you and possibly consult with a professional. But I have bought just about everything at the store so I thought I would share what has made a difference for me. One of the biggest things I have learned is, simple is better. You don't need a 10 step skincare routine to see results. Focus on what your skin needs and the basics: face wash, hydration (yes, even if you have oily skin), and sunscreen. I have watched these simple products create all the different in the way my skin now looks. The simple, clean ingredients were just my skin needed to breathe. I have tried to limit when and how much makeup I wear. Letting my skin breath rather than covering it up has helped tremendously. The insecurity in me always said "put makeup on to cover the problems" when I should have been letting my skin take time to soak in good products and not have makeup clogging my pores. Rather than letting my insecurity stay forever, I realized my skin is who I am at my purest form and no one cares how much makeup I'm wearing.
Hydrating Oily Skin?!
I know, I was just as shocked as you were. I thought there was no way I ever needed to add moisture to my already oily skin but boy was I wrong. Oily skin needs just as much moisture and love as dry skin. It helps to keep the barrier fresh and allows it to rebuild. I kept my makeup products targeted more towards my oily skin but allowed my skin care to take hold of the moisturizing. With that adjustment, I have noticed my skin is more smooth and it has created a softer base for my makeup products. For the days I don't wear any makeup, I allow my skin to soak up any hydration that it can while still being able to breathe. I will admit, I have most recently been put on Accutane so my skin needs the extra love because everything is dry right now, but even before my Accutane, I noticed these changes in my skin.
Try it out!
Now a lot of skincare is trial and error but there's never a hurt in trying a new product. What works for you may not work for others so read the ingredients and focus on what your skin needs! Dermatologists are also great resources if you have the ability to see one! I am so thankful for where my dermatologist has gotten my skin but just like anything, you have to take it day by day.
Check out my everyday products and let me know if you end up loving them too!
